Short Story: After taking the first two sets, the UAlbany volleyball team came up short in a five set thriller against Omaha on Sunday.

Coach Pickard: “Tough loss for the team to end the tournament. Loved how the team fought and we learned things that we need to focus on this week. Excited about the year and what we learned this weekend.”

By the numbers:

• Akuabata Okenwa led the way with 16 kills, and also recorded 11 digs.
• Malea Stanton notched 39 assists.
• Grace Cozad tallied 10 kills and 16 digs.
• Omaha's Isabella Sade finished with 24 kills.
• Omaha outhit UAlbany .200 to .168, but didn't outhit the Great Danes until the last three sets.

Notes:

• Okenwa tallied double digit kills in all the matches at the Omaha Challenge and earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
• Stanton was also named to the All-Tournament Team, recording a total of 131 assists in the three matches. The Santa Monica, California native made her collegiate debut on Friday, against Idaho State.
