BOSTON – The University at Albany track & field program landed two members on the 2017-18 America East Indoor All-Academic team, the conference offices announced Wednesday. Senior Tara Belinsky and junior Cara Sherman were UAlbany's representatives.
Belinsky, a thrower from Locust Valley, N.Y., has accumulated a 3.86 GPA studying Communications with a minor in Sociology. Belinsky earns her second All-Academic honor, after being named for the 2017 indoor season. Belinsky placed second at the America East Indoor Championships in the shot put. She broke her own school record in the event three times this season, including her 50-00.00 mark at ECAC Indoor Championships. It was the first time in program history that a woman has thrown 50', indoors or outdoors.
Sherman, a distance runner from Rotterdam, N.Y., has earned a 3.89 GPA studying Mathematics and Biology. Sherman was named to the 2017 America East XC All-Academic team, and placed second in both the 3,000m and the 5,000m at the America East Indoor Championships. She set personal bests in both events this season, including a school record 9:33.18 in the 3,000m.
UAlbany's outdoor season has started and the team will split up across three meets in Florida, Stanford, and San Francisco this weekend.
