ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany baseball team (11-18, 3-9 AE) will see one of the games it had cancelled earlier this season made up this weekend as part of a home-and-home series against Marist. Originally, UAlbany was scheduled to play a doubleheader at Marist on Saturday, and a single game hosting the Red Foxes on Sunday. Now, Sunday will also feature a doubleheader against Marist, in a make-up of the game lost on April 4, the originally scheduled home opener.
The doubleheader on Sunday will also be UAlbany's Coaches vs. Cancer game. Legends Barbershop in Mechanicville has volunteered to shave the players' heads in support of the vs. Cancer Foundation. To make a donation to the cause, please follow the link to the team page above.
UAlbany last played a single game against Army. The Black Knights jumped out to an 11-2 lead after three innings, but the Great Danes clawed back, bringing the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth. Ultimately, the UAlbany rally fell short, and the Danes fell by a final score of 13-10.
Previously, the Great Danes hosted Binghamton for a three game series, including the team's long-awaited home opener. UAlbany had played 'home' games against UMass Lowell the previous weekend, but the games were played in Lowell due to unplayable field conditions at University Field. Despite being swept by Binghamton, UAlbany played the Bearcats close into the ninth inning in two of the three games.
Marist last played against Binghamton, falling to the Bearcats by a score of 3-1 in Vestal, N.Y. It was the third America East team the Red Foxes have played this season, and Marist is 0-3 against the America East.
The doubleheader against Marist will lead into a third-consecutive home game when UAlbany hosts Central Connecticut State on Tuesday. Afterwards, the Danes will visit Iona on Wednesday before hosting a rematch series against UMBC next weekend to kick off an eight-game home stand.
