Banner Leads Baseball in Postseason Awards

BOSTON – The University at Albany baseball team has collected four end of year awards, the America East announced on Tuesday afternoon. Leading the Great Danes was pitcher Dylan Banner with an America East First Team All-Conference (Starting Pitcher) nod. Teammates Levi McAllister (Catcher) and Luke Filippi (Outfield) followed on the America East All-Conference Second Team, while redshirt freshman Aidan Gelbsman was named to the All-Rookie Team.

Banner has had a standout year for the Great Danes. The RHP from Plainview, N.Y., sits second in the league with a 3.67 ERA over 88.1 innings pitched. His total innings are just one out shy of the conference lead of 88.2. Banner has shown control with the ball, striking out 63 batters while walking just 13. His 1.32 walks per nine innings ranks eighth in all of Division I. He's thrown to a 5-5 record while allowing just 36 earned runs.

McAllister, a redshirt sophomore catcher from Concord, N.H., had a breakout season in his second year with the Purple and Gold. He leads the entire America Eat with 48 runs batted in. He's accumulated 42 hits, 20 of which have gone for extra bases – 11 doubles, one triple, and eight home runs. He boasts a batting average of .290, which is second on the team, with an OPS of .963 (first on the team) and a slugging percentage of .545 (also first).

Filippi, a junior outfielder from Port Jefferson, N.Y., finished the 2025 regular season with a .281 batting average, a .844 OPS, and a .455 slugging percentage. He started 47 of 50 games played, amassing 50 hits with 12 doubles, two triples, and five home runs. He collected 33 RBIs, tied for third on the team, and finished with 81 total bases, second on the team.

Gelbsman, a redshirt sophomore from Oneonta, N.Y., returned to the mound after pitching just 1.1 innings last season before missing the remainder due to injury. In his 2025 comeback season, the rookie tossed a total of 21.2 innings, making five starts and nine total appearances. In those nine appearances, he held batters to a .176 batting average while totaling a 3.32 ERA. He allowed just eight earned runs striking out 25 and walking 19.

The Great Danes enter the 2025 Northeast Delta Dental America East Baseball Championship as the league's No. 5 seed. UAlbany will play No. 4 Maine in a single elimination matchup tomorrow, May 21, at 1:00 p.m. The Black Bears are this year's Championship host.
