No. 5 Baseball Sets Sights on Postseason

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany baseball team is officially set to participate in the 2025 Northeast Delta Dental America East Baseball Championship. The Great Danes enter postseason play as the conference's No. 5 seed and will play No. 4 Maine on Wednesday afternoon.
 
Championship Info
The 2025 Northeast Delta Dental America East Baseball Championship is hosted by the University of Maine at Mahaney Diamond in Orono. Six of the seven America East team made the Championship.
 
Wednesday will feature two single elimination matchups, with No. 4 Maine taking on No. 5 UAlbany at 1:00 p.m. and No. 3 Binghamton taking on No. 6 UMBC at 5:00 p.m. The lowest remining seed will move on to face No. 2 NJIT on Thursday. The highest remaining seed will take on No. 1 Bryant.  
 
Following day one, the tournament moves on to a double elimination format.
 
The Championship series is set for Saturday, May 24. The team from the winning bracket will need to win just one game to claim the title. The team from the losing bracket will need to take two games.
 
All games throughout the Championship will be broadcast on ESPN+.

Leading the Pack
  • Ryan Ferremi leads the Great Danes with a .292 batting average, followed closely by Levi McAllister (.290) and Luke Filippi (.281).
  • McAllister leads not just the team, but the entire conference, with 48 RBIs. The Concord, N.H., native has smacked eight home runs while collecting 11 doubles and one triple.
  • Ferremi leads the team in total hits with 54, which ranks T-14 in the America East. His OBP sits at .433 thanks to a league-high 33 walks throughout the year.
  • On the mound, Dylan Banner sits second in the America East with a 3.67 ERA. The junior has tossed an impressive 88.1 innings, which is just one out shy of the conference lead, while amassing a 5-5 record, striking out 63 batters, and allowing just 36 earned runs. Banner is eighth in all of Division I in walks allowed per nine innings with 1.32, giving a free base to just 13 batters over the course of the year.
  • Matthew Mariano sits behind Banner with a 4.94 ERA in 18 appearances, making three starts. He's tossed 54.2 innings, accumulating 50 strikeouts while allowing just 30 earned runs.
  • Aidan Gelbsman, a redshirt freshman from Oneonta, N.Y., has been a standout rookie for UAlbany. He's tossed 21.2 innings, making five starts over nine appearances. He's allowed a mere eight earned runs on 13 hits, tallying 25 strikeouts.
  • As a team, the Great Danes have a batting average of .253, an OPS of .744, and a slugging percentage of .368. The pitching staff has a combined ERA of 7.48 with a WHIP of 1.81.
 
Last Time Out
The Great Danes wrapped the 2025 regular season with a three-game series at Binghamton, dropping two of three to the Bearcats but clinching a spot in this year's Championship. UAlbany dropped games one and two before rebounding on Saturday afternoon with an 11-5 victory.
  • Luke Myers had a strong weekend, batting .556 with five runs on five hits, walking three times, and driving in six runs.
  • Ryan Ferremi batted .383, also driving in six runs. He finished with five hits, including a double and a triple.
  • Levi McAllister (.364) and Luke Filippi (.333) both followed, rounding out a field of four Great Danes who batted over .300 for the weekend.
  • Thomas Quinn collected the win on Saturday for UAlbany, pitching 3.0 innings with three strikeouts and one walk. Quinn allowed just three hits in his long appearance.
  • Alex Enea also had a strong outing, pitching in two games over the weekend for a combined 2.1 innings. The freshman allowed only a single hit while picking up one strikeout.

Last Year at the America East Championship
The Great Danes are in a similar spot as last season, also entering as the No. 5 seed in 2024. UAlbany faced No. 4 UMass Lowell last season, dropping the single elimination contest to the River Hawks, 5-4.
