Men?s Soccer Slated For Two In Chicago

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany (1-0-1) men's soccer program has drawn and won in each of its first two games of the 2016 season.  Now, the team faces a five-game road trip that won't let up until the Danes next play at home on September 25.

The first two of these five games take place this weekend in Chicago.  On Friday, the Danes will play DePaul, and on Sunday, Loyola-Chicago.  Both are first-time opponents for the program.

Junior Afonso Pinheiro has scored a goal in each of the first two games of the season.  With his goal against Lafayette, he has tied Jarvin Skeete (1999-2001) for the most goals scored in UAlbany Division I history with 20.  He is also closing in on the all-time points record, 51, held by Skeete.  Pinheiro currently has 46.

Pinheiro's goal against Lafayette came in the 10th minute of the game.  Despite a handful of additional opportunities, the Great Danes were unable to notch another goal.  The UAlbany defense held Lafayette scoreless for a final score of 1-0.

After this weekend, the Great Danes will play three more road games, at Massachusetts, at Rhode Island, and at Boston College, before returning home on September 25 to host LIU Brooklyn.
