Men's Soccer Adds Three More to Recruiting Class Ahead of 2015 Season
ALBANY, N.Y. – With the upcoming season right around the corner, University at Albany men's soccer coach Trevor Gorman announced three additions to the Great Dane roster, Matthew Devine (Belfast, N. Ireland), Moosah Khanat (Dix Hills, N.Y./Manhattan College) and Eddie Whitfield (Staten Island, N.Y./Iowa Western CC).
“We're pleased to add Matthew, Moosah, and Eddie to our squad,” said Gorman. “All three are talented individuals who are excited to be a part of the Great Dane family. They each bring experience and quality to our team and we're looking forward to the coming seasons with them.”
The trio rounds out a seven-player recruiting class for the Great Danes, a team that returns eight starters and 14 letterwinners from 2014.
Devine, a multi-talented athlete joins the Great Danes from Belfast, N. Ireland as a freshman defender/midfielder. He is the first player from the United Kingdom for Trevor Gorman since his first season at the helm in 2011.
Khanat is a transfer from Manhattan College with three years of eligibility remaining. He made three starts in 13 appearances for the Jaspers as a freshman forward. He was an all-league, all-conference, All-Long Island and New York All-State selection coming out of Dix Hills, N.Y.
Whitefield joins UAlbany as a redshirt sophomore from Iowa Western Community College. The Staten Island native earned NY Post honorable mention accolades out of high school, totaling 18 goals and 18 assists in his last two seasons up top for Curtis High School.
Gorman & co., host Colgate (Monday, Aug. 17) and Northeastern (Thursday, Aug. 20) in exhibition play before hosting Villanova on Friday, Aug. 28 at 7:00 p.m., in its home opener at Bob Ford Field.
