Bowen to Compete at South American Championships

Meet Information (Spanish)
ALBANY, N.Y. – As he did a year ago, University at Albany high jumper Alexander Bowen will participate in his signature event in a series of summer competitions for the Panamanian national team. The first stop on the schedule is Lima, Peru, for the South American Championships.
Bowen has already competed in the Panamanian National Championships this year, where he won the high jump with a mark of 7'-0.5”, becoming a national champion in only his second year with Panamanian citizenship. In his first national championship meet last year, Bowen cleared 6'-8.75” to take second place.
A week before Bowen competed in Panama's National Championships, he improved on his own national record of 7'-1” when he cleared 7'-3” using a short approach. Bowen's career best in the high jump is 7'-3.25”, a mark he has cleared both indoors and outdoors while competing for UAlbany.
Last year's summer schedule while competing for Panama included six total meets, consequently keeping Bowen training for essentially 14 consecutive months. This summer, Bowen will compete in this week's South American Championships, but will not compete again until the Pan American Games in Toronto at the end of July.
The men's high jump is scheduled to go off on Friday, June 12 at 3:00 p.m. local time (4:00 p.m. Eastern).
