Men's Track And Field Earns No. 7 Rank In Northeast Region

ALBANY, N.Y. – Already boasting some of the top marks in the nation, the University at Albany men's track and field program earned a No. 7 rank in the Week 1 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I Northeast Region rankings. The Great Danes totaled a score of 332.95 in the index.

With two meets in the books this spring, UAlbany is led by Alexander Bowen's record breaking 7'3” high jump mark at the 7th Annual Carolina Spring Break Classic in Puerto Rico, which ranks second in the region and sixth in the nation.

Fellow field athlete Alfonso Scannapieco captured a pole vault victory at the University of Central Florida Invitational with an IC4A qualifying and America East Performer of the Week reaping mark of 17' 0.75”. That height is tops in the conference and third in the Northeast.

Also garnering America East Performer of the Week honors, senior Ethan Clary earned a victory in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the UCF Invitational, pacing the field with a time of 9:13.67, ranking fourth in the Northeast Region.

In the 400m dash, senior Alex Petit-Frere (48.05) has the second-best regional mark, followed closely by freshman Taariq Jones's fifth ranked 48.86 time.

Also running well, junior Kareem Morris ranks fourth in the region with his time of 10.79 in the 100m dash, done at the UCF Invitational.

Lastly, both the 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams have competed at a high level this spring, as Donald Williams Jr., Kareem Morris, Charles Karam, and Winston McCormack Jr. ran a 41.15 in the 4x100m at UCF, ranking third in the region. In addition, the 4x400m relay team consisting of Taariq Jones, Daryl Subran, Charles Karam, and Alex Petit-Frere, broke the tape at the Carolina Spring Break Classic with a time of 3:15.35, ranking fourth in the Northeast.
