UAlbany Indoor Sets For Armory Collegiate Invitational

ALBANY, N.Y. – For the second of three trips to New York City
this season, the University at Albany men's and women's indoor track and field
teams will compete this Friday and Saturday at the 2013 Armory Collegiate
Invitational. The meet that is now in its 12th year will feature more than 100
universities and colleges spanning both the nation and the globe, including 23
teams ranked in the top-25 of the men's and women's national polls.

REGIONAL RANKINGS
The UAlbany women's team is ranked fifth in the Week 2 Northeast Region Index
by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA)
with a total of 160.62 points. Ranked fourth (181.78) in the first week's
release, the Great Danes are off to a promising start in the 2013 season.
Also off to a strong start this winter, the men's squad is
ranked sixth in the Northeast Region with a total of 157.19 points. The Great
Danes have been highly regarded this season, ranking third in the first week's
release (194.16 points).
WOMEN'S QUICK HITS
▪ The UAlbany women own the America East's top results in seven events so far
this season and have rewritten five program records.
▪ Senior Alli
Rogers ranks first in the league with her 56.16
second time in the 400m dash. In addition, the 4x400m relay squad consisting of
Rogers, Aderinsola
Ajala, Tynelle
Taylor-Chase, and Dominique
Claudio own the conferences' top finish (3:46.52).
▪ Junior Kathryn
Fanning has been a part of three program records and top league times this
winter, shattering the mile (4:45.88),
1,000m (2:46.70), and the distance medley relay (11:40.00)
previous bests. ▪ Fanning was joined by Sherez
Mohamed, Brianne
Bellon, and Miranda
McConnell in this season's NCAA Division I 19th-fastest DMR time, set at
the Boston University Terrier Classic (1/26).
▪ In the field, senior Pat
McNish has been dominant in the America East with top long jump (19'
9.5") and triple jump (40'
3.25") marks. McNish also owns the program long jump record (19'
9.5").
MEN'S QUICK HITS
▪ UAlbany's male athletes own the top America East marks in four events this season,
including the top four times in the 400m dash. Senior Jonathan Santana's 48.00
second time leads the pack, followed by Alex
Petit-Frere (48.57)
Taariq
Jones (49.47)
and Charles
Karam (49.55).
▪ Sophomore Chris
Buchanan ranks first in the conference with his 4:08.89
mark in the mile.
▪ Field athletes Alexander Bowen and Alfonso
Scannapieco both have nationally ranked leaps in the high jump and pole
vault, respectively.
▪ Bowen's 7'
1" mark in the high jump is not only the best in the league, but the
top height in UAlbany program history and the 18th-best in the NCAA Division I
level this season.
▪ Scannapieco's 16'
10.75" pole vault mark at the Great Dane Classic (1/18) is also an
AEast top height and the winter's 38th-best score in the nation.
COMING UP
This weekend's meet will represent the Great Danes' final test before the
America East Championship, set for Feb. 11-12 in Boston, Mass. The UAlbany men
will battle for their 10th indoor America East title, while the women will
contend for their third championship in the last four years.
