SCHENECTADY, N.Y.- Sophomore forward Brandon Wilson leads UAlbany, in overtime, over Towson, 3-2, on Saturday, September 1 at The Turf at College Park. Both Great Dane midfielders' sophomore Pomare Te Anau and freshman Anthony Rozzano finished the match with three points apiece (one goal and one assist). With the overtime win, the Great Danes move to 1-1 on the season while the Tigers fall to 1-2 overall.
UAlbany converted three of its four shots on goal, while Towson would tally 11 shots on goal and convert just two.
Great Dane goalkeeper Tim Allen would record his first career victory at UAlbany, saving a season-high nine shots on 11 chances. Tiger goalkeeper Felix Petermann would tally just one save on four chances.
With the game tied at two in overtime, both teams got physical in the first couple minutes of the overtime. As Te Anau dribbled to midfield, he sent a cross into the box with teammate Wilson streaking in and Wilson connected with a beautiful header to the top shelf of the net in the 95th minute.
The Great Danes opened up the match early with Te Anau getting the match's first goal in the 6th minute. Rozzano setup the goal with a cross on the far end of the goalkeeper box to the top of the box for Te Anau to send the ball just below the crossbar.
Towson (1-2) then responded with two consecutive goals to go up at halftime 2-1. The first goal was from junior forward Olakunle Banjo, who sent a kick from about 25 yards out and just snuck by UAlbany goalkeeper Tim Allen on the near left post in the 14th minute. Then in the 30th minute, midfielder Christian Hofer drew a foul inside the goalkeeper box to receive a penalty kick, which he would finish off.
With UAlbany (1-1) down 2-1 at half, Rozzano would look to tie the game at two in the 65th minute. Sophomore defender Christoffer Nisser would send a through ball from midfield to give Rozzano a one-time passed Towson goalkeeper Felix Petermann.
UAlbany looks to carry its overtime success against Yale on Monday, September 4 in New Haven, Conn.
