Queens, N.Y. - UAlbany closed out the Red Storm Baseball Tournament with a 4-3 loss to Holy Cross on Sunday afternoon at Kaiser Stadium. Despite a late-inning rally after seven scoreless innings, the Great Danes could not close the gap, falling to 4-12 on the season. Holy Cross evened up its record at 7-7.
Holy Cross got all of its runs singly in four different innings. The Crusaders put one run on the board in the bottom of the first, and held onto the 1-0 advantage until the fourth, where they added another. Two more single runs in the sixth and the seventh, while holding the Great Danes scoreless, gave Holy Cross a 4-0 lead heading into the eighth.
UAlbany started to rally in the top of the eighth, getting two runs. Brian Bullard sent a triple into right center to score Adam Mund, while Craig Lepre got Bullard home on a ground out. The Great Danes took their momentum into the ninth. With two outs, Josh Nethaway singled up the middle to score Joey Tracy, who led off the inning with a walk. With Pete DiResta in scoring position at second, the Crusaders got the final out on a ground ball to secure the win.
Kasceim Graham went seven innings on the mound for the Great Danes, striking out three opposing batters. Kevin Archbold threw the final inning for UAlbany, getting three quick outs to help keep the Great Dane offense hot.
UAlbany (4-12) will return to action on Tuesday, hosting Marist in the home opener at Varsity Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
