UAlbany Baseball Inks Four in Early Signing Period

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany baseball program has announced the signing of four standout players to National Letters of Intent. The Great Danes will welcome Cory Kingston (San Jose, Calif.), Alex Lushkevich (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), Joe Romero (Valley Stream, N.Y.), and Stephen Woods (Dix Hills, N.Y.) in the fall of 2013.

Cory Kingston
5'10” ▪ JR. ▪ OF ▪ 175 ▪ R/R ▪ San Jose, CA ▪ Transfer from De Anza Junior College

Notes: Batted .288 in his first season at De Anza … Recorded one home run, seven RBI, and nine runs scored.

Coach Jon Mueller on Cory: “Cory has the athletic ability to have an immediate impact for UAlbany. His military background provides leadership, work ethic, and toughness that will transfer onto the field.”

Alex Lushkevich

Notes: Hit .380 in his first season at HVCC with 31 runs scored and 21 runs batted in … Belted two home runs, four triples, and six doubles … Was successful in 19-of-20 stolen base attempts.

Coach Jon Mueller on Alex: “Alex has the athleticism and makeup to have a very successful two years at Albany. He adds a left handed bat with gap-to-gap power to our lineup.  He also is a viable utility option.”

Joe Romero
6'4” ▪ 225 ▪ RHP ▪ Valley Stream, NY ▪ Chaminade High School

Coach Jon Mueller on Joe: “Joe has a power arm with tremendous upside. He is a big bodied righty with a fastball in the upper 80's, touching 90 on occasion.”

Stephen Woods
6'2” ▪ 205 ▪ RHP ▪ Dix Hills, NY ▪ Half Hollow Hills East High School

Coach Jon Mueller on Stephen: “Stephen has a great make up and possesses a fastball in the low 90's. One of the top recruits from Long Island, Stephen will have an immediate impact in the America East Conference.”

The UAlbany baseball team opens the 2013 spring season at the USA Baseball Complex Classic in Cary, N.C. Feb. 15-17th.
