Wilson Scores Third Game-Winner in UAlbany Victory Over Hartwick

Box Score
ONEONTA, N.Y. – Sophomore
forward Brandon Wilson scored his team-high third game-winning goal of the
season to lead the University at Albany over Hartwick College, 2-1, on
Wednesday, Oct. 17. Down 1-0 at the half, the Great Danes battled back with two
unanswered goals to erase the early deficit and clinch the road match.
A 30th minute goal by Hartwick (4-7-2, 1-2 MAC)
opened up the scoring at Elmore Field. Freshman midfielder Marc Russell took a
low cross from senior forward Cleyon Brown and flicked it past the keeper to
put the Hawks ahead.
UAlbany (5-9, 3-2 A-East) would prove not to be fazed by
the early Hartwick score as they answered twice in the final 45 minutes.
First, in the 56th
minute, senior forward Quintel Gates sent a header to the feet of teammate Ivan
Martinez. The freshman forward then took off with the ball on a breakaway and
finished for his first career goal.
The Great Danes continued building on their momentum in the
71st minute, ultimately putting the game away. After receiving a
pass from sophomore midfielder Pomare Te Anau, Wilson took one touch and
rocketed the ball inside the far post to give UAlbany the 2-1 lead.
“We showed tremendous determination tonight. Everyone on our
squad played a big role in coming back from a halftime deficit on the road,”
said UAlbany coach Trevor Gorman. “I'm pleased with the character this team is
showing and I think it will serve us well in the run to the end of our season.”
Both teams took three cornerkicks with Hartwick winning the
advantage in shots, 13-10. UAlbany goalkeeper Tim Allen recorded his fifth win
with four saves on five chances. Hawks goalkeeper Tom Buckner recorded one save
on three opportunities in the loss.
