Towson Ends UAlbany?s Match Streak At Four; Great Danes Look Forward To Siena On Sunday

Towson, Md.- Towson defeated UAlbany men's soccer, 4-1, on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at Tigers Soccer Complex. The Tigers outshot the Great Danes, 17-10 and also led shots on net, 10-4. Junior forward Quintel Gates point streak ended at five matches. UAlbany continues its 2011 season at Siena on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 1 pm at Siena Turf Field.
     Towson (1-3-1) took over the first half scoring two goals in a matter of 22 minutes. Sophomore forwad Olakunle Banjo led the charge with a quick goal in the 5th minute that was setup from teammates senior midfielder Javier Bermudez Roa and junior forward Matteo Vertucci . Then in the 22nd minute, Banjo received a pass from sophomore forward Enrico Skrypak at midfield for a breakaway goal, his second of the game, to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.
     UAlbany (4-3) came right back with a goal in the 23rd minute as teammate sophomore defender crossed a pass to freshman midfielder Pomare Te Anau to cut the lead, 2-1.
     Then in the 28th minute, the Tigers struck with another goal from junior midfielder Phil Martinelli that was assisted by Banjo to bring the lead back up to two goals, with the score 3-1 at half.
     The second half continued to be all Tigers. In the 48th minute sophomore defender Cameron Kidwell stole a pass at half to strike a breakaway goal to add to Towson's lead, 4-1.
     Towson's goalkeepers senior John Steele and junior Nathan Moran combined for one save on two shots on net, while UAlbany's goalkeeper junior Scott Kessler had a busy day tallying six saves on 10 shots on net.
