Albany, N.Y.- In a last minute effort by junior midfielder Jeff Pierre's 81st minute goal, UAlbany loses to Hartwick, 2-1, on Saturday, Aug. 27 at Varsity Field. The Hawks with a man down early and two quick goals by junior's Cleyon Brown and Tyler Bailey in the first half were able to hold off the Great Danes.
     Hartwick (1-0) struck early in the match with two quick goals within the first 21 minutes. Junior forward Cleyon Brown began the game with a shot 20 yards out from the net to put the Hawks up 1-0. Then following Brown's goal, junior midfielder Tyler Bailey, in the 21st minute, was able to scoop up the ball from the top of the box and find the back of the net to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead.
     With the Great Danes down 2-0 at half, UAlbany kept up the pressure as the offense peppered the goalie with four shots on net in the second half. In the 81st minute with a loose ball inside the box, junior midfielder Jeff Pierre took a chip shot from 12 yards out and put it over the goalie to cut the deficit to one. But Pierre's lone goal wasn't enough to bring back the Great Danes as the score would stand 2-1 at the final.
     UAlbany lead in shots 6-4 and held the advantage in corner kicks at 3-1. Hartwick's freshman goalkeeper Tom Buckner made one save on two shots on net, while UAlbany's senior goalkeeper Adrian Foncette was unable to make a save with the two shots on net.
     The Great Danes (0-1) look forward to their upcoming match on Monday, Aug. 29, as they go on the road to face the Pride of Hofstra at 7pm at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.
