Albany, N.Y. - University at Albany head men's soccer coach Trevor Gorman announced on Tuesday, April 19 the hiring of Michael Mordocco as assistant coach. Mordocco was previously an assistant at Stony Brook University.
A four-year assistant at Stony Brook, Mordocco helped the Seawolves win the 2009 America East Conference championship and advance to the NCAA Tournament. In 2010, Stony Brook posted a 10-7-3 record, finished among the top three teams in the regular-season standings for the second straight year, and reached the conference tournament semifinals.
From 2004-07, Mordocco served as an assistant at SUNY College at Oneonta. Oneonta State set a school record for single-season wins with a 16-2-2 mark in 2006, the program's first season at the NCAA Division III level. The Red Dragons reached the 2005 Atlantic Soccer Conference championship final its final Division I campaign.
Mordocco was a four-year letterwinner at the University of Connecticut. The Huskies, who won 71 matches during his career, captured the 2000 national championship with a 20-3-2 record. UConn also reached the 1999 College Cup Final Four, made three Elite Eight appearances, won the 1999 Big East Conference tournament crown and garnered four Big East regular-season titles. He earned his undergraduate degree in economics.
Mordocco received his United States Soccer Federation "C" License in 2009 and earned a USYSA National Youth License the previous year. He coached the Stony Brook Soccer Club U-16/18 team for the past four years and was the Boys Director of the U-11 program. He attended Half Hollow Hills East High School on Long Island.
