Old Westbury, N.Y. - Greg Lutton earned the win on the mound as UAlbany
completed a three-game sweep of NYIT in non-conference baseball action on Sunday
afternoon at President's Field. The Great Danes won the series finale with a
score of 7-5.
The Bears took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but the Great Danes responded
with five runs in the top of the second. Jeff Welsh, who singled to reach base,
scored on an NYIT error, which also allowed Josy Espinal to advance to second.
Espinal later scored on a passed ball, before Pete DiResta knocked an RBI
single up the middle to score Kyle Crean. With the bases loaded, an outfielder
error allowed DiResta and Nolan Gaige to come home to finish the scoring for
the Great Danes.
NYIT pulled within one run in the bottom of the frame, but UAlbany tacked on
an additional score in the top of the fourth on an RBI single by D.J. Hoagboon
which scored DiResta, who recorded a triple to start the inning. The Bears
scored again in the bottom of the fifth, getting to within 6-5, but the Great
Danes tacked on a security run in the top of the ninth, as DiResta was hit by a
pitch with the bases loaded, sending Joe Ilacqua across home plate.
Lutton earned the win after 3 1/3 innings of work, striking out three with
no earned runs. Kevin Cowan earned his first save of the season, tossing the
final 1 2/3 innings. Ryan Dillabough took the loss on the mound for NYIT (0-7),
