Albany, N.Y.- In the 68th minute, freshman midfielder Pomare Te Anau scored on a direct kick that decided the match, between UAlbany and Hartford, to a 1-1 tie on Saturday, Oct. 8 at Varsity Field. The tie ended the Great Danes four-match skid and prepare for Stony Brook on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 7pm at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium.
In a physical first half, Hartford (3-7-3) got on the scoreboard first, in the 43rd minute, with a goal from sophomore forward Anthony Santaga that was assisted by teammate senior forward Patrick Boucher to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. Hartford led the first half in shots, 7-3.
UAlbany (4-6-1) responded in the second half with a goal in the 68th minute from the foot of Te Anau to tie the game at 1-1. The goal was set up with a foul outside the box by a Hartford defender at the 26 yard marker. Hartford led the second half in shots, 7-6.
In overtime, UAlbany had three opportunities on net to put the game away, but Hartford's senior goalkeeper Luke Citriniti recorded all three saves to preserve the game at a 1-1 tie.
The Hawks led in total shots, 20-10, while UAlbany led in corner kicks, 6-5. The Hawk's senior goalkeeper Luke Citriniti recorded four saves on five chances. The Great Dane's senior goalkeeper Adrian Foncette tallied seven saves on eight chances.
