Dickson's Eight-Goal Game Leads #16 Delaware to a 16-9 Men's Lacrosse Win Over UAlbany

Newark, Del. - Curtis Dickson exploded for a career-high eight goals in leading nationally-ranked Delaware to a 16-9 victory over UAlbany on Saturday, March 6 at Delaware Stadium. The Blue Hens, who were playing in their 22,000-seat football stadium for the first time since 1998, are No. 16 in the USILA coaches' poll and No. 17 in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse media rankings.
     Delaware (4-1) broke open a close game with six unanswered over a seven-minute span in the final quarter. Leading 10-8 with less than 10 minutes remaining, senior midfielder Martin Cahill keyed the outburst with two of his three goals, Dickson and Mark Steverson found the net within a 23-second span.
     The Blue Hens, who reached the 2007 Final Four and have made four NCAA appearances, led 6-5 midway through the third quarter, but then scored a pair eight seconds apart. Dickson, an All-America attackman who also handed out two assists, had both of the goals, including a shot that came after midfielder Tommy Lee won the face-off and passed ahead. Defenseman Pat Dowling caused a turnover that led to Dickson's transition goal early in the final period and a 10-6 advantage.
     UAlbany (0-3) sliced that deficit in half while taking just 12 seconds off the clock on goals by Kyle Brunk and defenseman Mike Banks. Freshman Matt Mackenzie won the draw leading to Banks' first goal as a collegian with 10:54 to play.
     The Great Danes' Joe Resetarits equaled a career-high with five points on three goals and two assists. Brunk tallied two goals and assisted on another. The Blue Hens avenged last year's 15-12 defeat at John Fallon Field.

Paw Prints: Delaware has won five of eight meetings with the Great Danes, including a triple-overtime decision in 2007 ... UAlbany coach Scott Marr was a Delaware assistant from 1992-94 ...
