Greensboro, N.C. - Centerfielder Corey Overholzer and catcher Ed Jayjack each scored three runs to lead UNC Greensboro to a 11-5 win over UAlbany at UNCG Stadium on Saturday afternoon.  

UAlbany took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, loading the bases on back-to-back walks to start the game, followed by a single up the middle by Brendan Rowland. Pete Eichner drove the Great Danes' first run home with an RBI single up the middle, scoring lead-off hitter Pete DiResta, while keeping the bases juiced. Brian Bullard crossed home for the second run of the game on a sacrifice fly by Josh Nethaway. UNCG pitcher Alex Shelton  was relieved by Zach Furl, who then induced a fly out and a foul out to get out of the inning.

The Spartans' offense exploded in the bottom of the frame, scoring five runs to take the lead. After two straight walks, lead-off batter Drew Gehringer scored on a UAlbany fielding error. Ed Jayjack drove a triple to right center, while Cody Walker also recorded a triple to combine for three runs for UNCG. The Spartans acquired their last run of the inning when Walker made it home on a UAlbany error.

Both teams added additional runs in the second. UAlbany cut the lead to 5-3 with one run scored by Kyle Crean, who tripled to lead off the frame. However, UNCG tallied two runs with back-to-back bases-loaded walks in the bottom of the inning. The Great Dane offense was unable to produce a run for the next six innings, while the Spartans scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 10-3 advantage. Taking advantage of struggling UAlbany pitching, Ray Quinones and Zach Leach both recorded RBI with bases-loaded walks. Jayjack then crossed home on a wild pitch to end the scoring. Leach added one run to the UNCG total in the bottom of the seventh, drawing a walk off UAlbany's Brian Gauthier and crossing home plate on an RBI single by Kris Richards.

UAlbany attempted a rally in the top of the ninth. Ralph Rizzo drew a lead-off walk and advanced on a UNCG throwing error that also allowed Adam Cutspec to reach base. Rizzo crossed home on a single by Rowland. Reliver Blake Hassebrock struck out Eichner to get the second out of the inning before walking pinch hitter Greg Muller with four pitches to load the bases. Cutspec scored the final run of the game, making it home on an RBI single by Nolan Gaige before Muller got tagged out at second.

UAlbany (0-2) will return to action against the Spartans, wrapping up the three-game series with a single game starting at 2 p.m.
