Men's Soccer Wraps Up 2010 Campaign With 4-0 Loss to First-Place Boston University

Boston, Mass. - Ben Berube scored a goal and set up another tally to lead Boston University to a 4-0 victory over UAlbany in America East Conference men's soccer action on Saturday, Oct. 30 at Nickerson Field.
Aaron O'Neal, one of six Terrier seniors that was honored prior to the match, put the hosts on the board in the 10th minute when he received a pass from Berube and tucked a shot past goalkeeper Adrian Foncette into the near corner of the net. Just 5:19 later, Michael Bustamante buried a penalty kick to double the lead. Before halftime, Ben Havey made it a 3-0 match by taking a short pass in the box from Stephen Knox and drilling a shot to the lower left side of the goal.
Leading by three goals at the break, Boston U. (11-4-1, AE 6-1-0) continued to apply pressure in the second frame. Foncette, who is leading the league in saves per game for the second straight season, turned away several Terrier shots from point-blank range, including one by O'Neal, in an effort to keep the Great Danes in the match. However, the hosts got an insurance goal in the 72nd minute when Berube punched in his own rebound after his initial shot was saved by Foncette to cap the scoring for both sides.
Boston U., which captured its 10th America East regular-season title, outshot UAlbany (5-10-1, AE 1-5-1), 22-6, and had a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks. UAlbany's Foncette made seven stops on 22 chances in the losing effort, while Brandon Briggs of Boston U. faced six shots and did not have to make a save. Briggs also earned his seventh shutout victory of the season.

Paw Prints: Despite posting a five-win improvement, UAlbany failed to qualify for the six-team America East Conference Championship for the second straight season and third time in four years ... The Great Danes could have snuck into the tournament as the sixth seed with a win over the Terriers after Vermont defeated Hartford, 2-0, earlier in the day ... Head coach Johan Aarnio's squad graduates eight seniors and is slated to return 15 letterwinners, including five starters, next season.
