Poughkeepsie, N.Y. -- Shortstop Zac Halloran went 2-for-2 with three runs scored and two RBI, including a solo homer to left field in the top of the third inning in the nightcap to lead UAlbany to a non-conference double-header sweep of Marist at McCann Field on Tuesday, April 10. The Great Danes won the first game 10-6 and claimed the second by a 12-6 margin in five innings. The second game was called in the fifth due to darkness.
UAlbany (12-15) jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning and tacked on another run in the top of the third to grab a 5-0 advantage. Marist responded with one run in the bottom of the frame and followed with a five-run fourth inning to hold a 6-5 lead heading into what would prove to be the final frame.
Halloran recorded his second hit and RBI of the day in the fifth, kicking off a seven-run innings that would give the Great Danes the 12-6 win.
In the first game of the afternoon, Marist scored runs in each of the first two innings before UAlbany posted four runs in the top of the third to take a 4-2 lead.
First baseman Mike Konstanty led off the frame with a single to centerfield, while Brendan Rowland followed with a base hit to third. Second baseman Steve Wyland knocked a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners and Konstanty scored on an error by Marist first baseman Ryan Gauck. Designated hitter Tom Hill drove in a run and scored one of his own to end the inning for the Great Danes.
Marist (7-19) responded in the bottom of the frame, scoring three runs to regain a one-run lead.
Hill recorded his second single of the day during the fourth inning, in which UAlbany regained the lead with two more runs. The Great Danes put the game out of reach for the Red Foxes in the fifth, tacking on three runs on the strength of an RBI double by Halloran that scored Sean Donovan and Wyland.
Freshman Matthew Herrick earned his first win of the season for the Great Danes while Alexander Beaulieu recorded a save. Catcher Andrew Stanton had two hits and two runs scored for Marist, while rightfielder Kyle Lattonta drove in two more.
UAlbany will return to action on Friday, kicking off a four-game non-conference weekend series with New York Tech. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
