Football Jumps Two Spots To No. 23 In Sports Network Poll

THE SPORTS NETWORK RELEASE
ALBANY, N.Y. -- With back-to-back wins and a 6-2 overall record, the University at Albany football team moved up two slots to No. 23 in The Sports Network Media Poll on Monday. It marks the fourth week this season that the Great Danes have appeared in the national rankings.
For the first time in UAlbany's Division I FCS history, the Great Danes closed their non-conference schedule with a perfect 4-0 record, topping Colgate, 24-17, with a last minute touchdown on Saturday.
UAlbany ranks first in the nation for turnover margin (1.75), as well as, sixth for scoring defense (17.0). Offensively, redshirt senior running back Omar Osbourne leads the CAA, averaging 115.7 rushing yards per game. In addition to playing hero with the winning touchdown against Colgate, redshirt senior quarterback Will Fiacchi made history last weekend, becoming the first UAlbany player in the Division I FCS era to throw for over 6,000 yards in his career. He currently has accrued 6,134 yards, including 1,389 this fall.
One of five CAA football squads to be ranked in the Top-25, UAlbany has a challenging road in the final four weeks of the season. The Great Danes take on No. 2 New Hampshire (6-1, 4-0) this Saturday in Durham. New Hampshire boasts the nation's longest streak in the TSN Poll -- 150 consecutive weeks.
A national panel of sports information and media relations directors, broadcasters, writers and other dignitaries select The Sports Network Top 25. In the voting, a first-place vote is worth 25 points, a second-place vote 24 points, all the way down to one point for a 25th-place vote.
