• Competed for one of Africa's premier basketball development programs.
• Finished among the Top 5 performers at the NBA Academy Africa Showcase in 2023.
• Helped win a SEED Academy tournament championship in 2019.

Personal

• Papa "Pop" Kounta was born Sept. 12, 2003, and calls Thiès, Senegal, home.
• Son of Sidy Mohamed Kounta and Yacine Ngom.
• Has five siblings, three brothers, Abdoulaye, Gorgui Saloum, and Mohamed Ousmane and two sisters, Oulimata and Fana.
• Intends to major in sociology at UAlbany.
• Enjoys working out and spending time with friends.
• Chose UAlbany because he believes it is the best place to excel academically and athletically.
