Short Story: The University at Albany baseball team erased multiple deficits, including an eight-run gap, using a six-run seventh inning to power past Siena, 13-10, on Friday afternoon.

Coach Jon Mueller: "Good team win. Clean defense and the offense was solid. We were able to cash in all afternoon. We talked about getting into the pen and we were able to do that."

Key Stats: How it Happened:
  • Siena jumped out early, scoring three runs in the first inning on a pair of home runs to take a 3-0 lead.
  • UAlbany got on the board in the third when Patrick DeSarno launched a solo home run to cut the deficit to 3-1.
  • The Great Danes took their first lead in the fourth inning. After a walk and a double put runners in scoring position, Cooper Loyal delivered an RBI single before Michael Maggio followed with a two-RBI single to give UAlbany a 4-3 advantage.
  • Siena answered immediately in the bottom half, scoring three runs, including a home run and RBI hits, to regain the lead at 6-4.
  • In the fifth inning, Matthew Mariano entered in relief for Christian Mello. Siena extended its lead to 8-4 with a two-run home run before Mariano settled in and limited further damage.
  • UAlbany began its comeback in the seventh inning. Tre Mariano led off with a solo home run before Jaxon Mueller doubled to spark a rally. With the bases loaded, Cooper Loyal drew a walk to bring in a run, and Michael Maggio followed with an RBI single. Luke Filippi added another RBI knock, and a Siena error allowed two more runs to score as the Great Danes plated six runs in the frame to take a 10-8 lead.
  • Siena tied the game in the bottom of the seventh with a two-RBI double, making it 10-10.
  • The Great Danes responded again in the eighth. After reaching on an error and a pair of walks loaded the bases, Maggio drove in the go-ahead run with a groundout to make it 11-10.
  • UAlbany added insurance in the ninth. Tre Mariano hit his second home run of the game before a bases-loaded walk from Joe Perri brought in another run for his first career RBI to extend the lead to 13-10.
  • M. Mariano, who earned the win, closed out the final innings on the mound to secure the victory for the Great Danes.
