SHORT STORY: UAlbany shot well from deep and battled back from a third-quarter deficit to take a late lead, but NJIT answered in the fourth to take the win, Thursday night.

  • Freshman Amaya Stewart led UAlbany with a career night, scoring 25 points on 11-14 shooting.
  • Sophomore Martina Borrellas added eight points, a team-high 10 rebounds, and a game-high six assists.

  • Martina Borrellas and Delanie Hill knocked down threes in the opening quarter as UAlbany carried a 20-17 lead after one.
  • NJIT responded in the second with points at the line and in the paint, using a late push to take a 33-30 advantage at halftime.
  • Out of the break, the Highlanders stretched the margin behind a quick run, pushing the lead to 13 in the third.
  • UAlbany answered with energy and toughness on the glass, trimming the deficit with second-chance opportunities.
  • Palomo Vicente hit a key three and graduate student Bella Stuart added a triple as the Great Danes kept chipping away.
  • Amaya Stewart controlled the lane late in the third and UAlbany closed the quarter with an 11-3 surge to take a 49-48 lead entering the fourth.
