HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first quarter started as a defensive stalemate with neither team producing much offense for the first five minutes. At the halfway mark of the period, UAlbany held a 5-2 lead courtesy of five points from Bella Stuart.
  • Each team gathered five more points each as the first quarter came to a close, with the Great Danes holding a 10-7 advantage.
  • UAlbany struck first in the second quarter, but UMBC responded with seven unanswered points and held a 14-12 lead with 4:55 left in the second quarter.
  • Both squads traded four points over the last three and a half minutes, and the Retrievers held an 18-16 lead at halftime.
  • Out of the break, UMBC went on a 6-2 run that lasted the first four minutes of the third quarter and pushed the lead to 24-18.
  • The Great Danes were able to outpace the Retrievers, 11-7, over the remainder of the quarter and trailed 31-29 heading into the fourth.
  • UMBC started the fourth with five unanswered, but was quickly countered by a four-point play from Delanie Hill to make the score 36-33 with six and a half to go.
  • The Retrievers answered back with a 6-2 run that extended the lead to 42-35.
  • As the fourth came to a close, UAlbany went on a 9-2 run, capped off by a Martina Borrellas layup with 15 seconds left to tie it up at 44 and send it to overtime.
  • UMBC controlled most of the first overtime and held a 54-51 lead with nine seconds left, but another clutch Borrellas shot, this time from three with just a second left, gave the Great Danes new life and forced a second overtime.
  • UAlbany jumped out to an early lead in the second overtime and led by seven with less than a minute left.
  • Both teams traded layups and free throws as the game came to a close, but the Great Danes held on and walked away with a 69-63 double overtime victory.
