ALBANY, N.Y. - The University at Albany field hockey's
Mara Küskes was named Defensive Player of the Week, Tuesday.
A junior on the team, Küskes was a member of the a defense that held #12 (now ranked #11) UMass to just two goals, a number lower than their average of over three goals per game.
In addition to a strong defensive appearance against the Minutewomen, Küskes scored the game-winning goal against Holy Cross on Friday (Sept. 19).
Küskes' award is one of three awards given out by the America East Conference each week. This is her third career weekly award, first this season. As a team, the Great Danes have earned two AE weekly awards - Offensive Player of the Week (9.3 -
Pilar Lorenzini) and Defensive Player of the Week (9.23 -
Mara Küskes).
Küskes and the Great Danes will return home to host Maine next week - Friday, October 3.
