ALBANY, N.Y. - The University at Albany field hockey team and head coach
Phil Sykes have announced the return of Robyn Murray, Monday afternoon.
"We are super excited to have Robyn joining our staff," said Sykes. "She will bring good experience and energy to the position. She has tremendous UAlbany pride as she was an important part of our 2022 Elite 8 team. She will bring that high standard to every practice and game we play."
Murray returns to UAlbany after having spent the last four years furthering her education and beginning a career in collegiate coaching. Most recently, she was the graduate assistant coach at Central Michigan for a year and a half while pursuing a masters in sports administration. While with the Chippewas, Murray assisted in the instruction, management, and teaching of student-athletes. She collaborated with the coaches to develop and execute game and practice plans, conduct individual skill work and film sessions with student-athletes, and assisted in recruiting.
Prior to Central Michigan, Murray worked as a coach for the Texas Pride Field Hockey Club following graduation from UAlbany. In the Lonestar State, she coached multiple levels of field hockey including the U14, U16, and U19 travel teams along with a PK-5th Grade youth league. In her short time, she coached her teams to compete for the Regional Club Championships and guided the U14 Blue and U16 White teams to a gold medal finish. Her assistance brought all three travel teams to the National Club Championships.
"I am incredibly excited and honored to return to the team I once played for," said Murray. "I made so many unforgettable memories here as a player and I can't wait to create more as a coach. It is a true full circle moment."
A former standout at the University at Albany, Murray graduated after three years on the field hockey team as a defender. During her career, she appeared in 51 games, including all contests during the 2021 and 2022 seasons. With 44 starts under her belt, Murray was a member of the 2022 America East Champion team that upset host #4 Michigan in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Murray started her collegiate career at Old Dominion, where she played for two years.
While attending UAlbany, she spent time as a coach with ADK Field Hockey. During her time with the club, she led the U16 team to second place overall in the Shooting Stars Summer Escape Tournament.
A native of Enniskerry, Ireland, Murray graduated from the University at Albany in December 2022 with a major in sociology and a business minor. She received her Master's in Sports Administration from Central Michigan in May 2026.
