KEY STATS
  • Freshman Lillian Willis scored her first career goal.
  • The Minutewomen outshot UAlbany 20-8, including a 15-5 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Graduate student Emma Peeters tallied a season-high 13 saves - just one less than her career-high (14).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a scoreless first quarter, Lillian Willis tabbed the first goal of the game late into the second quarter.
  • Freshman Jette Kurz swept the ball into the circle from about the 25-yard line where Willis collected the ball, dodged a couple defenders, including the goalie, and made one final tap to seal her first career goal.
  • The Minutewomen attempted to answer with four shots, including a penalty stroke attempt, in the final four minutes of the first half but Emma Peeters stopped all attempts and UAlbany held the lead at halftime.
  • Dominating the pressure in the third quarter, UMass was hungry to score. Their first penalty corner of the quarter resulted in the game-tying goal.
  • About five minutes into the final quarter, Massachusetts scored the go-ahead goal and despite four shot attempts, including two on goal, the Great Danes were unable to answer and fell, 2-1.

NEXT: After a week off, the Great Danes will open the conference season against Maine at Alumni Turf on Friday, October 3.
