SHORT STORY: Led by standout performances from freshman Hayley Wieczerzak and junior Deanna Grahek, the Great Danes defeated Maine to advance to the second day of competition in the America East Championship Tournament.
 
KEY STATS

• Deanna Grahek led the team going 4-4 with two doubles for three RBI and three runs.
• Sophomore Taylor Quinn batted .667 with two hits, including a triple, in three at bats.
• Redshirt-senior Victoria Vilarchao, junior Sara Anderson, and sophomore Mary Kate Murray added two hits each.
• Freshman Charlotte Lomb slammed an RBI double.
• Redshirt-senior Kate Powers started the game in the circle. Hayley Wieczerzak took over in the third inning and struck out nine batters in 4.1 innings for the win.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• Maine opened strong with a run in the first inning.
• The Great Danes answered with two runners on base from a walk and a single, but both were left on as the inning came to a close.
• UAlbany's defense held in the second inning with three outs in three batters, including a pickoff at first base, before Kate Powers struck out the second batter of the inning.
• Deanna Grahek hit her first double of the game to open the bottom of the second.
• With two consecutive Black Bear errors, the Great Danes tied the score at one.
• Charlotte Lomb knocked a double to right field to bring a run and give UAlbany a 2-1 lead after two innings.
• Maine countered and scored two runs in the third.
• UAlbany answered quickly putting two runners in scoring position.
• Grahek and Victoria Vilarchao hit two consecutive doubles for a two-run lead, 5-3.
• Sara Anderson added a single to make it four hits for the Great Danes in the third, but in the end, three runners were left on base.
• Having taken over in the third, Hayley Wieczerzak struck out two batters in the top of the fourth to make it a quick half-inning.
• Once tallying four hits in one inning, UAlbany added two runs for what proved to be the final score of the game, 7-3, in the bottom of the fourth.
• In the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, Wieczerzak struck out six batters, two each inning, and allowed just one hit.
• Quinn tripled (fifth) and Grahek singled (sixth) as the Great Danes reached 12 total hits in a four-run victory over Maine.
