SHORT STORY: Despite a strong first inning, the Great Danes fell to UMBC in the Second Round of the America East Tournament, Thursday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Caitlyn Frederick began the game with an infield single before stealing second.
- Taylor Quinn immediately followed with a second Great Dane single. A throwing error allowed Frederick to score and Quinn to take second base.
- After getting on base with a walk, junior Deanna Grahek and Quinn both successfully stole to get a second run for UAlbany.
- UMBC answered with a run in the bottom of the first before taking a 7-2 lead after two innings and extending their advantage to six runs, 8-2, after three complete innings.
- Christie Collins added an infield single beating out the throw to first but was left on base in the top of the fourth.
- The Great Dane defense tabbed a double play to leave it at three batters in the bottom of the fourth. Picking up a ground ball, Grahek stepped on second and threw to first to collect a putout and an assist.
- Frederick opened the fifth inning with her second hit of the matchup but was left at first base after three outs.
- Within four batters, the Retrievers had loaded the bases for a game-winning grand slam and a final score of 12-2.
NEXT: As the America East Tournament is double elimination, the Great Danes will continue playing for a chance to make it to the championship game. Their next game will be on Friday, May 9, at 1:30 pm against the winner of the Maine-Bryant game.
