AMERICA EAST CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP

• Both the men's and women's teams defended their title and won the America East Championship for the second consecutive year.
• In a true test of a team, the women had only three individual champions with 16 total medal winners. They won by a 22.5-point margin ahead of second-place Bryant (164-141.5).
  • Rebeca Valerie Barrientos Alpha was named the Most Outstanding Field Performer after winning the triple jump and placing fourth in the long jump.
  • Amelia Benjamin (HJ) and Shenequa Vassell (60m) added individual titles in their respective events.
• In a similar fashion, the men's team had six individual champions with nine additional medalists. The UAlbany men won by 34.5 points over second-place UMass Lowell (170-135.5).
  • Tooni Ogunyeye was named Most Outstanding Rookie with the UAlbany coaching staff earning Coaching Staff of the Year.
  • The long jumpers swept the podium with Simone Menchini taking home the title.
  • The remaining five individual champions were Ogunyeye (60m), Hassan Abidi (800m), Antwone Messado (60mH), Ja'Lil Reynolds (HJ), and Travis Robinson (SP).

CHAMPIONSHIP PEDIGREE

• The UAlbany cross country/track and field program claimed their first America East Championship victory in 2003 when the men won the indoor championship. Since then, each of the six programs have claimed at least one America East crown.
• The program's six teams have collectively won 68 of UAlbany's 136 Division I championship titles with their most recent coming during the indoor season with both teams winning titles.

 
AMERICA EAST INDOOR HISTORY

• The women's indoor track and field team won nine-straight conference titles from 2013-22. Extending to the 2010 championship, the women's team has won 12 in 14 seasons.
• The men's team has won 18 since their first in 2003, including 12 consecutive wins from 2006 to 2017. 
• In 2017, the men set a single-meet program record with 10 event victories. The women's team set theirs in 2019, the year of their Triple Crown, with nine event victories.
• Historically, the women's most successful event has been the high hurdles, with 10 event victories, while the men have found the most success in the triple jump with 13 victories.
