Track and Field Set for Three-Meet Week

ALBANY, N.Y. - The UAlbany track and field teams prepare for a busy week with three meets on the horizon.

LAST TIME OUT
  • Simone Menchini led all performers with a new school record (7.66m) in the long jump. The sophomore transfer is now ranked first in the America East and second in the Northeast.
  • Menchini's efforts resulted in him being named America East Co-Field Athlete of the Week. 
  • Adaliz Hunt ran a personal record 60m dash to finish second in the race's finals. With a 7.56 time, she leads the conference and ranks fifth in the Northeast this season.
  • In an outstanding showing from the long jumpers, Stephan Farquharson, Christian Quinn, and Daniel Cephus filled out the top-four finishers with Menchini. Farquharson and Quinn are now second and third, respectively, in the conference. Farquharson's 7.25m jump is eighth in the region and Quinn's 7.17m jump is 18th in the Northeast. Cephus' 7.01m jump is sixth in the conference.
  • With a personal record in the pole vault (7.65m), Gabriel Snyder is now ranked second in the America East and 16th in the Northeast. 
 
LAST TIME AT THE MILLROSE GAMES
  • The Great Danes last competed at the Millrose Games in February 2024.
  • The women's 4x400 relay placed third overall with a time of 3:49.19. The relay consisted of Brinesha Derrick-Bain (57.93), Thalia Benoit (57.30), Donnell Hartley (59.30), and Jazmen Newberry (54.67). 
  • Stephanie Green placed second in weight throw (63-05.00) while Kiana Nosile placed sixth in weight throw (58-02.00). 
  • Shak Williams finished sixth overall in the 60m dash in 6.61. He improved on his personal-best by five one-hundredths of a second and was just two one-hundredths off the program record of 6.59 set at the previous year's Millrose Games by former teammate Travis Williams.
 
LAST TIME AT THE CRIMSON ELITE
  • The Great Danes last competed at Harvard's Crimson Elite in February 2024.
  • Dominique Clarke placed third in the finals of the 60m dash with a time of 7.45. 
  • Amelia Benjamin finished third in women's high jump (5-05.00).
  • In the men's 60m dash finals, Shak Williams placed fourth with a time of 6.71 and Shavar Staats Jr. ran 6.75 for sixth place. 
  • Louis Gordon placed second overall in the men's long jump (24-09.25). His mark set a new indoor program record, surpassing the previous mark of 24-06.50 set in 2010 by Valete Graham.
  • At this time, Gordon held the program record in both the indoor and outdoor long jump. The indoor was outdone by Simone Menchini at the Greg Roy-al Rumble (Feb. 1, 2025).
 
LAST TIME AT THE BRUCE LEHANE SCARLETT & WHITE INVITE
  • The Great Danes last competed at BU's Bruce Lehane Scarlett and White Invitational in February 2024.
  • Toni Galloway placed fourth overall in the 60m hurdles in 8.65.
  • Rebeca Valerie Barrientos Alpha placed eighth in the women's triple jump (38-06.25).
  • In women's weight throw, Stephanie Green (59-04.00) finished third and Kiana Nosile (56-05.00) finished fifth.
  • In the men's 1000m, Hassan Abidi placed first in 2:23.38 which moved him into second place in program history in the men's 1000m.
  • Antwone Messado earned first in the 60m hurdles finals in a personal best 7.99. This made him the fourth Great Dane to break 8.00 in the men's 60m hurdles.
  • In the men's long jump Marcus McFadden ran a personal best 23-06.25 and placed first.

CHAMPIONSHIP PEDIGREE
  • The UAlbany cross country/track and field program claimed their first America East Championship victory in 2003 when the men won the indoor championship. Since then, each of the six programs have claimed at least one America East crown.
  • The program's six teams have collectively won 66 of UAlbany's 134 Division I championship titles with their most recent coming during the spring season when the women's team secured their fourth consecutive AE win.
 
AMERICA EAST INDOOR HISTORY
  • The women's indoor track and field team won nine-straight conference titles from 2013-22. Extending to the 2010 championship, the women's team has won 12 in 14 seasons.
  • The men's team has won 17 since their first in 2003, including 12 consecutive wins from 2006 to 2017. 
  • In 2017, the men set a single-meet program record with 10 event victories. The women's team set theirs in 2019, the year of their Triple Crown, with nine event victories.
  • Historically, the women's most successful event has been the high hurdles, with 10 event victories, while the men have found the most success in the triple jump with 13 victories.
