SHORT STORY: Beatriz Mora Herencia threw the javelin 49.42 meters to qualify for her first NCAA National Championship, Friday.
KEY NOTES
- Beatriz Mora Herencia improved about 1.5 meters on each of her throw attempts to finish just .1 meters off her personal record with a 49.42-meter throw. Ranked second after her flight, it was a waiting game to find out if she qualified. Approximately 30 nerve-racking minutes later, it was sealed, and Mora Herencia took the final spot to advance to nationals.
- UAlbany has now sent at least one freshman to nationals for two years in a row. Amelia Benjamin, a high jumper, represented the Great Danes in 2024 and Mora Herencia is sealed as a rookie javelin thrower.
- Stephanie Green opened the first day of competition for the women with an 8 am hammer throw start. Coming in ranked 33rd, Green overcame two fouls to finish 31st with her third throw of the day.
- Racing in the fastest heat of the day, on average, Toni Galloway matched her wind-legal personal record in the 100m hurdles.
