BOSTON - The University at Albany track and field's Lalenii Grant and Skyler Smith have been honored by the America East Conference, announced Tuesday.
 
A native of Scarborough, Trinidad and Tobago, Lalenii Grant competed in two events at the USF Alumni Invitational - shot put and discus throw. Throwing for a personal record in the discus throw, she improved upon her second-best-in-program-history mark from last season. After a full weekend of competition in the nation, Grant's throw (56.81m, 186-4) is ranked third in the nation and first in the Northeast.
 
Hailing from Niskayuna, New York, Skyler Smith also competed in two events at the USF Alumni Invitational - 800m and 1500m. Both marks are now ranked in the top 10 of UAlbany's program history as well as top five in the Northeast. With a 2:11.28-run in the 800m, Smith is 10th in program history and third in the Northeast this season. Speeding towards a personal record of 4:31.79 in the 1500m, she is ranked ninth in program history and fourth in the Northeast.
 
Both Grant and Smith are first in the America East in their respective events.
 
This is the first weekly award for both Grant and Smith this season, as well as the first for the outdoor season.
 
The track and field programs will return to action on April 3 at the Pepsi Florida Relays and on April 4 at the UConn Dog Fight.
