BOSTON – The University at Albany men's basketball team has been picked to finish tied for second in the 2025-26 America East Preseason Coaches' Poll, the league announced on Monday. The ranking represents the highest preseason projection for the program since 2017, signaling that the conference's head coaches view the Great Danes as a legitimate contender for the 2025-26 America East Championship.
In addition, sophomore guard
Amir Lindsey was named to the America East Preseason All-Conference Team, recognizing him as one of the league's top returning players.
"As a program, we're ready and hungry to take a big step this season, and I'm glad our peers have taken notice." said head coach
Dwayne Killings. "We still know there's a lot of work ahead, and we have to stay committed every day on this journey and towards our goals. Preseason rankings are exciting, but it's about the team that grows the most and finishes the race."
Vermont earned the top spot in the Preseason Poll with 63 points and seven first-place votes, while Maine (one first-place vote) and UAlbany tied for second with 47 points each. UMass Lowell followed in fourth with 39 points and one first-place vote, while Binghamton (37), Bryant (35), and UMBC (31) rounded out the middle of the pack. NJIT (13) and New Hampshire (12) completed the poll.
Lindsey, whose standout freshman campaign earned him a spot on the America East All-Rookie Team in 2024-25, returns after a strong debut season. The Framingham, Massachusetts, native showcased his versatility and poise, shooting 42.3% from the field, 36.0% from three-point range, and 85.0% from the charity stripe. He posted a season-high 15 points against NJIT (Jan. 25, 2025), recorded multiple six-rebound games, and maintained an impressive 2.5 assist-to-turnover ratio. He is the only underclassman to make the America East Preseason All-Conference team on both the men's and women's side.
