Men’s Basketball’s Season Ends At UMass Lowell

Score:  UAlbany 76, UMass Lowell 81

Location: Kennedy Family Athletic Complex | Lowell, Mass.

Records:  UAlbany (11-21, 7-10 America East), UMass Lowell (15-17, 10-7 America East)

Short Story:  The University at Albany men's basketball team fell to UMass Lowell in the Quarterfinals of the America East tournament, ultimately ending their season.

Coach  Killings:  "I think the guy to my right, Amir Lindsey, is without question the best leader in our league, and he played his heart out. The emotion he's feeling comes from the fact that for 38 minutes, our kids gave everything they had, and they executed the game plan, rebounded well, and our zone defense really made a difference. We just had a short stretch that hurt us, and Lowell did a great job responding and taking advantage of a couple of our turnovers. Chris Okeke stepped up the way we asked him to with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and eight blocked shots, nearly a triple-double. Unfortunately, sometimes that effort still isn't enough, and that's what stings the most. Our guys responded and were ready, but that small window ended our season."

Key Stats:
  • Okechukwu Okeke dominated both sides of the game, recording a double-double (16 points, 11 rebounds), eight blocks, two steals, and two assists.
  • Okeke's eight blocks established new single-game records for both UAlbany and the America East Tournament.
  • Amir Lindsey tallied a whopping 30 points, tying a season high for any Great Danes in 2025-26, in addition to leading the team with six assists.
  • Zach Matulu and Isaac Abidde also had double-digit point games; Matulu scored 14 while Abidde scored 13.
  • UMass Lowell shot .468 from the field, .429 from beyond the arc, and .778 from the charity stripe.
  • UAlbany shot 45.1% in the paint, 38.5% threes, and 40.0% from the line.
  • The Great Danes out rebounded the River Hawks 38-36.
