ALBANY, N.Y. - The University at Albany volleyball team is set for an exciting fall as the Great Danes announced their 2024 schedule, Tuesday.
The 2024 season features four opponents who competed in the 2023 NCAA Tournament - FGCU, Coppin State, LIU, and UMBC. The 2024 slate will see one opponent from a Power Five conference - Utah - with two additional opponents from Group of Five opponents - Central Michigan and Wyoming.
"We are excited to get back in the PE Gym for our preparation and matches this season," said head coach
Josh Pickard. "We are headed to Florida, to get closer to home for a couple of our players, and out west to Wyoming for some others. Being able to put together a schedule that prepares us for our conference matches is important and I think we have accomplished that."
After two years of hosting their home games at Russell Sage College, the Great Danes will compete back home in the renovated PE Gymnasium. The long-awaited first game back will be special with UAlbany's very own invitational (Sept. 6-7). The Purple and Gold will welcome Central Michigan for the first game on Friday at 11:30 am. The Great Danes will play again on Friday against Iona at 7 pm before closing their tournament schedule against NEC Regular-Season Champion, FDU, on Saturday at 2 pm.
Before its home invitational, UAlbany will open the season in Florida at the FGCU Hilton Garden Inn Fort Myers Classic. Playing three games in two days, the Great Danes will see NDSU and UIC as well as back-to-back ASUN Champion and host, FGCU, in competition.
Continuing their pre-conference tournament schedule, the Purple and Gold will head to UConn for three matches (Sept. 13-14) before closing out their regular-season tournaments at Wyoming (Sept. 20-21) with three matchups including MEAC Regular Season and Tournament Champions, Coppin State.
UAlbany will open America East action at Binghamton (Sept. 27) and end the month with a home contest against New Hampshire (Sept. 29).
October brings four home matches with eight league games and three non-conference contests, including a matchup against crosstown rival, Siena.
The Great Danes open the month with a home game against LIU before heading on the road for three straight matches - UMBC, NJIT, and Siena.
UAlbany closes the month with three consecutive home games against Bryant, Binghamton, and UMBC.
The Purple and Gold will end the regular season with four games, including their final non-conference matchup at NEC Champion, LIU, and their final home contest against NJIT on November 8.
The Great Danes will compete for a chance to make the 2024 conference tournament and win their first tournament title since 2019. Hosted by the league's regular-season champion, the America East Tournament will be played during the Nov. 22-24 weekend.
