Piseno Named Defensive Player of the Week

BOSTON – University at Albany long stick midfielder Jake Piseno has been named the America East men's lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon. It's Piseno's second weekly award of the 2024 season.

Piseno notched five ground balls and added three caused turnovers in Saturday's 14-9 win at NJIT. The graduate student also scored a goal with the long pole, his ninth of the year and third consecutive game in which he has scored. Piseno put up identical stats a week ago against Bryant – one goal, five ground balls, and three caused turnovers.

Piseno now sits second in Division I in caused turnovers with 2.64 per game, only behind Villanova's Stephen Zupicich (3.08). Piseno has recorded at least three ground balls in seven of 11 games this season.

With Saturday's win, the Great Danes remain in a tie for first place in the conference standings with Binghamton. Both teams currently sit with a 4-1 conference record. If both teams collect conference wins this upcoming weekend, the two foes will battle for the #1 overall seed in the America East tournament in the final regular season game of the year on April 27 at Casey Stadium.

The Great Danes are set to travel to Yale on Friday night before facing off against Merrimack on Sunday afternoon. The team returns home for the game against Binghamton on the 27th to round out the regular season.
