ALBANY, N.Y. - The University at Albany field hockey program and head coach
Phil Sykes have announced a mid-year transfer ahead of the spring 2024 season.
"We are very excited to have Nina join the Great Dane family," said head coach
Phil Sykes. "Her goalkeeping skills and strength of character will add a great deal to our team dynamic."
A transfer from Indiana University, Nina Faupel joins the Great Danes as a sophomore. Originally hailing from Chelsea, Michigan, the 5-9 goaltender played for both her high school, Chelsea High School, and a club team, Pinnacle.
Named to the Max Field Hockey list of top 100 players, Faupel competed in the 2019 Junior Olympics as well as the National Futures Championship for five consecutive years. A First Team All-Michigan honoree, she earned a spot on the 2021 Michigan High School Dream Team and the 2022 NFHCA National Academic Squad. While at Indiana, she saw a career-high 23 minutes against Penn State in 2022.
