Men’s Basketball Snaps Skid, Picks Up Win at UNH

Short Story: The University at Albany men's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak on Saturday day afternoon, traveling to New Hampshire and beating the Wildcats 86-79 in Durham.

Key Stat Lines
  • Amar'e Marshall led the Great Danes in scoring with 29 points, going 9-15 from the field and 3-4 from three-point range.
  • Jonathan Beagle recorded his 10th double-double of the year after registering 14 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
  • Sebastian Thomas dropped 25 points, leading the team in assists (7) and Steals (6). He was almost flawless from the charity stripe, going 14-15.

How it Happened:
  • UAlbany shot out to a 9-5 lead to start the game with Tyler Bertram energizing the bench with a deep three to put UAlbany up four points.
  • The threes didn't stop there, with Amar'e Marshall knocking down two more to push the UAlbany lead to 17-11 by the midway point of the first half. UAlbany started the game 3-7 from deep.
  • UNH went on an 8-0 run to cut the lead to 25-20 after UAlbany led by as much as 13. The Great Danes were forced to take a timeout with 7:48 remaining.
  • UAlbany never led by more than seven for the rest of the half, taking a two-point lead into the locker room, 41-39.
  • The Great Danes shot 48.3% (14-29) from the field and went 4-13 from deep in the first half. UNH shot 46.4 % (13-28) and went just 2-14 from deep.
  • Marshall led all scorers with 16 points at the break.
  • UNH took its first lead of the second half, 48-47, three minutes in on a Clarence Daniels dunk.
  • UAlbany's Marcus Jackson threw one down on a nice feed from Jonthan Beagle, putting UAlbany up 54-50 five minutes into the second half.
  • An 8-4 run after the Jackson Dunk put the Great Danes up eight points with 11:27 remaining.
  • With 6:55 on the clock, Sebastian Thomas hit a step-back three to put the Great Danes lead to 10 points, 71-61, and forced UNH to call timeout. The bucket put Thomas up to 20 points on the day.
  •  Up six, 75-69, with three minutes remaining, UAlbany called timeout after UNH went on an 8-2 run.
  • A rare three from big man Jonathan Beagle stretched the lead back to six points, 77-71, with under two minutes remaining. A quick transition score on UAlbany's next possession pushed the lead back to eight.
  • The Great Danes would hang on for the win, going 15-18 from the free throw line in the second half to secure the victory.
  • UAlbany shot 48.3% (14-29) from the field and went 2-5 from three in the second half. UNH shot 40.6% (13-32) from the field and went 2-10 from three.
