Head Coach Trevor Gorman: "It's always frustrating when you control a game and don't get a result.  We created many chances, hit every surface of the goal possible without scoring, and played with good spirit.  Sometimes when a big decision is made in the match there will be other decisions that then go against you and that's what happened on the PK.  It's a match we should have won, and that will be tough to process, but we move on to the next one this weekend."

How it Happened
  • The Great Danes kicked off their second-straight game a day late, stemming from the original rescheduling of last week's match at home against Marist due to inclement weather, plus the forecast for torrential rain in southern New York last night.
  • UAlbany pressed aggressively early, but Army West Point's defense held, blocking three of the Great Danes' first four shots before they reached Black Knight starting goalkeeper Keanu Likewise, with the fourth hitting the crossbar.  Likewise didn't have to make a save until the 21st minute.
  • Army didn't take its first shot until the 25th minute
  • In the 33rd minute Sean Adu-Gyamif slide-tackled Saad Faiz, undercutting Faiz's legs.  Adu Gyamif was assessed a straight red card and Army played the remainder of the game with 10.
  • Three minutes later, freshman Zach Lind, making just his second career appearance, received the ball deep in the Army box, turned, and shot.  Likewise made a point-blank save to prevent UAlbany from taking the lead and denying Lind his first career goal.
  • The first half ended without a score, though UAlbany held a sizeable advantage in shots taken, 8-2.  Army had played the final 12 minutes of the half with just 10 on the field, but still kept UAlbany off the scoreboard despite the Great Danes' pressure.
  • UAlbany continued its pressure to start the second half, taking the first seven shots of the period.  Ander Castillo nearly had a goal in the 55th minute, redirecting a serve with his head to the far post that hit the inside of the post but did not cross the goal line.
  • A long ball played forward by Army in the 56th minute led to a rundown between Tiago Dias and Army's D'Anthony Brown.  Shafique Wilson stepped up from his line and the ensuing collision between the three players resulted in Dias being assessed a yellow card and Army being awarded a penalty kick.  Cooper Warren stepped up and beat Wilson to Wilson's right to put the Black Knights on top.
  • Likewise made back-to-back saves just seconds apart in the 60th minute from Ivar Orri Gissurarson and Chris Lee, denying yet another promising scoring opportunity for UAlbany.
  • Again, Castillo created a dangerous opportunity with his head in the 69th minute off a serve from the right side, but his angle of attack was too sharp and the ball bounced just over the crossbar for an Army goal kick.
  • Two minutes later, Timo Jansen served the ball back into the box for Faiz, whose volley hit off the near post, bouncing off the back of Likewise and out of bounds for a UAlbany corner kick.  Santiago Frias's ensuing shot was blocked for another corner kick.  Frias had another shot blocked on this corner kick by the Army defense.
  • Jansen, in the 84th, broke through the Army defense, but his low shot, out of reach of Likewise, missed just wide off the far post.
  • Wilson made a big save in the 86th minute after Army broke through in transition, leaving the Great Danes deficit at one.
  • Army held on to win 1-0.  The Black Knights' defense faced 23 UAlbany shots, blocking six and seeing three more hit their post or crossbar, but did not concede a goal.
