ALBANY, N.Y. - The University at Albany field hockey team is set for a competitive fall as the Great Danes announced their 2023 schedule, Friday.
 
This year's slate includes 11 home games to be held at Alumni Turf and features two contests against Power Five opponents with one ACC and one Big Ten matchup each.
 
"We play a challenging schedule this season," said head coach Phil Sykes. "We are hosting several top schools from last season, including NCAA Champion - UNC, perennial Big Ten NCAA Tournament competitor - Iowa, and Patriot League Champion - Lehigh as well as UMass and Fairfield. Overall, this is a challenging schedule that should get us well prepared for conference play."
 
For the third-straight season, the Great Danes begin the season at home. UAlbany will welcome UMass (Aug. 25) and Stonehill (Aug. 27) for a weekend at Alumni Turf.
 
Continuing at home, the Great Danes will face a fellow 2022 NCAA Elite 8 team, Iowa (Sept. 3) and Hofstra (Sept. 8) before heading on the road for three-straight games, their longest road stretch of the season.
 
After visiting Cornell, Towson, and Drexel, UAlbany returns home to begin America East play with a split weekend. First hosting California (Sept. 22), the Great Danes will head to Bryant (Sept. 24).
 
With four-straight conference games to end September and start October, UAlbany will see the host of the 2022 America East Tournament (Maine - Sept. 29) with a rematch of the AE Championship (Stanford - Oct. 8).
 
Closing the season with two league contests and two non-conference games, the Great Danes are set to face three-time Honda Sport Award winner Erin Matson in her first year coaching the University of North Carolina. 
 
Before the scheduled start of the America East Tournament, UAlbany will close the regular season with 2022 Patriot League Champions Lehigh (Oct. 22) and conference foe, Vermont (Oct. 27).
 
The Great Danes will look for its second-straight conference tournament title as the America East Tournament will be played from Nov. 2-5, hosted by the league's regular-season champion.
