ALBANY, N.Y. - The University at Albany field hockey team has been voted 19th in the Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Preseason Coaches Poll, announced Tuesday.
Coming off a successful 2022 campaign, the Great Danes return to action after making it to the NCAA Second Round in November 2022. Earning the second seed in the America East (AE) Championship Tournament, UAlbany defeated Stanford in shootouts in the championship before upsetting #4 Michigan in overtime in the NCAA First Round to make it to the second round for just the second time in program history.
Returning student-athletes,
Alison Smisdom,
Blanca Orsola, and
Hannah Mangan completed the season ranked in several statistical categories. Smisdom finished top-15 in goals and points per game while adding a top-25 mark in defensive saves.
Hannah Mangan returns for a fifth year after finishing top-10 in the nation in goalie win-loss percentage and goals against average while
Blanca Orsola ranked top-20 in assists per game.

UAlbany will begin the 2023 season hosting UMass (Aug. 25) and Stonehill (Aug. 27) for opening weekend.
