NEW ORLEANS – The University at Albany women's track & field program has earned Team Academic honors from the U.S. Track, Field, and Cross Country Coaches Association. Additionally, three team members,
Shelby Bigsby,
Ludith Campos, and
Leann Nicholas, were recognized as All-Academic Athletes.
The women collectively accumulated a GPA of 3.09 for the 2022-23 school year, and have earned Team Academic honors each year since 2015.
Bigsby, a thrower from Montclair, N.J., pulled down a 3.27 GPA studying Business & Marketing. Bigsby won her fourth-straight indoor America East title in the shot put this season and ranked 59th nationally in her secondary event, the weight throw.
Campos, a thrower from Mount Vernon, N.Y., landed a 3.28 GPA studying Criminal Justice. Campos won her third-straight America East title in the weight throw this season, setting a new championship meet record. She ranked 33rd in the event among Division I competitors.
Nicholas, a jumper from Farmingdale, N.Y., holds a 3.90 GPA studying Biochemistry & Molecular Biology. Nicholas swept the indoor and outdoor America East titles in her signature event, the triple jump, setting a championship meet record outdoors. Her season ended at the NCAA East Preliminary Championships where she placed 29th overall.
Bigsby, Campos, and Nicholas each hold at least one UAlbany school record.
To qualify as an All-Academic, a team must holds a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. An individual must hold a GPA of 3.25 or higher and either finish the indoor season ranked in the top-96 in their event nationally, or participate in any round of the NCAA Championship during the outdoor season.
