BOSTON – A week after breaking the program record, University at Albany men's basketball freshman
Jonathan Beagle has claimed his ninth America East Rookie of the Week title. The previous UAlbany record set by Jon Iati in 2003-04 was seven titles. The conference record sits at 10, a mark set by Boston University's Tunji Awojobi in the 1993-94 season.
Â
In UAlbany's lone game this week, Beagle dropped his third-consecutive double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds. The rookie added three assists in a game that was crucial for the Great Danes to win in order to keep postseason hopes alive. His performance would prove to be vital for UAlbany, with the team taking down NJIT 82-68.
Â
This is the third-consecutive week Beagle has been named the conference's Rookie of the Week.
Â
Now a nine-time champ, Beagle has claimed the Rookie of the Week title on Nov. 14, Nov. 28, Dec. 27, Jan. 9, Jan. 16, Jan. 23, Feb. 13, and Feb. 20 in addition to this week. Last season, men's basketball forward
Justin Neely claimed the award six times before being named the conference's Rookie of the Year.
