LAST WEEK IN REVIEW
  • Defeating Siena, 76-58, the Great Danes earned their third straight Albany Cup victory on Saturday night.
  • Graduate student Helene Haegerstrand and senior Kayla Cooper shared top-scoring honors with 13 points each.
  • Tallying a team-high four assists, graduate student Sarah Karpell recorded her 250th career assist in the winning effort.

GREAT DANE REWIND
  • UAlbany has started its season with four wins and two losses.
  • The Great Danes opened their season with a down-to-the-buzzer win over Merrimack (Nov. 6) before falling to Fordham in a one-possession loss on November 10 and hosting Division III opponent Sarah Lawrence for a 91-point victory (Nov. 13).
  • On a record-breaking night against the Gryphons, the Great Danes notched the highest single-game point total (118), single-half point total (61), and single-game assist total (37) in program history.
  • After UAlbany took to the road to defeat St. Bonaventure, 66-56, on November 16, head coach Colleen Mullen and the Great Danes defeated Cornell (Nov. 22) for the first time in Mullen's tenure.
  • UAlbany fell to fourth-ranked Stanford in California on Sunday, November 26.
  • Most recently, UAlbany bested Siena in the Grand Opening of the Broadview Center, 76-58, on December 2.
  • Senior Kayla Cooper leads the Great Danes with 13.0 points per game and 13 steals.
  • Freshman Deja Evans holds a team-best 7.9 rebounds per game and seven blocks.
  • Graduate student Sarah Karpell leads the team in transition with 24 assists and a 52.6% shooting percentage. 
 
NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK
  • Recruits Deja Evans and Sarah Karpell have become defensive anchors for the new-look UAlbany women's basketball team.
  • Starting since her first collegiate game, Evans' team-high stats of 7.9 rebounds and seven blocks rank third and fifth, respectively, in the America East.
  • Fitting in seamlessly with UAlbany's aggressive defense, Karpell is tied for seventh in the America East with 12 steals.
  • The graduate transfer has started the season scoring 8.1 ppg from a team-best 52.6% shooting.

ABOUT CCSU
  • The Blue Devils have started their campaign with a 1-7 record with conference play yet to begin.
  •  CCSU started the season with consecutive road losses to Manhattan (Nov. 6), Syracuse (Nov. 10), Saint Peter's (Nov. 13), and Bryant (Nov. 17).
  • Earning their first victory of the season, CCSU defeated UMass Lowell, 58-49 (Nov. 21).
  • Going on a three-game losing skid, the Blue Devils fell to Fairfield (Nov. 26), Illinois (Nov. 29), and, most recently, New Hampshire (Dec. 2).
  • Samora Watson leads the team with 16.4 points per game.
  • Meghan Kenefick has tallied a team-high 5.6 rebounds per game while Alonna Sellers has tallied 0.5 blocks per game to lead.
  • Belle Lanpher leads the Blue Devils in transition with 2.6 assists per game and 2.5 steals per game.
 
SERIES AGAINST THE BLUE DEVILS
  • The Great Danes led the all-time series, 3-1.
  • The teams' last meeting was in 2021 (Dec. 21) with UAlbany coming out on top, 65-52, at home.
  • Returning student-athlete Helene Haegerstrand led the scoring in the victory, tallying 13 points.  
  • As a team, the Great Danes recorded 41 rebounds, including 16 offensive boards, in the winning effort.

  • Fans are invited to come to City Line Bar & Grill to join Coach Mullen, Coach Kills, the student-athletes, and the ESPN Radio 104.5 The Team crew. 
  • Food and drink specials will be available on a weekly basis as the teams embark on their new seasons and talk hoops every Monday.
 
AROUND THE AMERICA EAST
  • UAlbany narrowly leads the conference with five wins in seven contests. 
  • NJIT, Maine, and Vermont follow with a .556 win percentage after nine games (5-4).
  • Sitting just below .500, Bryant and New Hampshire are tied with a 4-5 record.
  • The final three teams each hold seven losses. Binghamton has tallied two wins with UMBC following after one win.
  • UMass Lowell rounds out the conference still fighting for its first win.
