Morrone Welcomes Flory

ALBANY, N.Y. - The University at Albany women's basketball program and head coach Kelly Morrone have announced the hiring of Philip Flory.

A member of the UAlbany men's basketball coaching staff during the 2025-26 season, Philip Flory joins the women's basketball team as the Assistant Coach/Operations/Movement & Shooting Specialist.

"Philip's established work ethic, understanding of expectations, and pride that come with representing the Great Danes makes him a tremendous addition," said Coach Morrone. "He is a player's coach that is always going to be willing to work with our students to elevate their game. His past experiences will serve him well as he collaborates with our staff strategies."

Flory spent the 2025-26 season as the men's basketball Director of Operations. In his role with the Great Danes, he coordinated team operations including but not limited to practice and lift schedules, travel, and recruiting. In addition, he assisted in player development through workouts, stretch routines, and in-season skill work while supervising all graduate assistants and team managers.

While serving as the Great Danes "DOBO", Flory continued his work with Philip Flory Training, a basketball organization he founded in 2019, where he has organized camps, clinics, and individual skill development sessions. Through his company, and multiple high school coaching gigs, Flory has trained and mentored athletes ranging from youth players to professionals with an emphasis on skill development, confidence, and basketball IQ.

Prior to his time at UAlbany, Flory spent four years playing professional ball. Participating in All-Star Weekend for three straight years, he played for the Syracuse Stallions, the Albany Patroons, and the Montreal Tundra from 2021 until 2025. While competing, Flory was drafted by the OKC Blue during the 2022 NBA G-League Draft.

In college, Flory spent time competing for three different schools - University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, UAlbany, and Seton Hall. Throughout his collegiate career, he was named First Team All-WIAC at UWSP as the team's leading scorer and captain and Big East All-Academic as a freshman at Seton Hall.

Flory graduated Cum Laude from the University at Albany with his Bachelor of Arts in Communication in 2025. When not at the office or the court, he is at home with his wife, Emilie, and dog, Preston.
